It's time to start taking look at our 2024 commitments.
Lynchburg sophomore pitcher Mason McDowell (Wilson Memorial) has signed to play with the Staunton Braves this summer in the Valley Baseball League.
McDowell appeared in 17 games on the mound for the Division III National Champions. He was 1-0 with one save and a 3.37 ERA. He struck out 23 hitters and allowed just 11 base hits in 18.2 innings, holding opposing hitters to a .167 average.
McDowell picked up his win in the NCAA Super Regional where the Hornets defeated Shenandoah 3-1. He pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit while walking one and striking out one.
McDowell also picked up his save in the postseason, getting the final two outs in a win over Wisconsin-La Crosse in the first game of the Division III World Series.
He also pitched in the Division III National Championship Game. Inn the 7-6 victory over Johns Hopkins, McDowell pitched 1.1 innings and allowed one run on one hit. He struck out one and walked two.
McDowell saw limited action in the field but was 3-for-6 at the plate with a double.
